ASPECT: The Chronicle of New Media Art, a biannual DVD publication, is currently accepting submissions of work for V16: Lo-tech, and V17: Hi-tech. Artists have historically co-opted emerging technology, adapting and expanding complex developments to suit their own goals. Conversely, there is nostalgia for obsolete technology. We will review installation, video, performance, sound, and any other work best documented in time-based format.

ASPECT asks artist/commentator pairs to submit proposals of time-based work. Commentators may be curators, historians, critics, or educators who can offer a distinct perspective on the work. Criteria for selection will include the qualifications of the commentator and the quality of the work. Audio recordings of the commentary will be assembled after the submissions have been selected.

Submissions must include:

-Video documentation (less than 15 minutes in length)
-A brief (100 word) statement regarding the submitted work
-Resume of the artist, resume of commentator

International Conference Hosted by the
Visual Culture Programme
Vienna University of Technology21-23 October 2010

What has emerged over the last decade as one of the most significant aspects of work in Visual Culture is a persistent desire for both a critical sensitivity toward its theoretical underpinnings and an experimental elasticity in its methodological approaches. This drive is giving rise to a plethora of new investigative practices and multi-directional engagements, particularly vis-à-vis matters of geopolitical urgency and their cultural and spatial implications.
Marking ten years of Visual Culture studies at Vienna University of Technology, this conference aims to bring together a diverse group of researchers and practitioners interested in the dynamics between emergent spatial phenomena and new modes of theoretical inquiry.

Calling for works exploring or documenting where art comes from
•Application Deadline

Manifest invites artists and designers of any media to submit works that explore, depict, challenge and interpret this “first frame” of creativity: the context from which art is made. Whether that originating zone is a traditional studio, an open field, a social atmosphere, or a computer screen… we invite artists to show us where it all starts.

Open to all traditional and non-traditional genre and media. Note that works submitted to this exhibit may be straight forward 'artworks' in the vein that an artist is already working in. Or they may be outside the usual mode of operating for an artist who may, for example, be known for abstract paintings, but who for this exhibit photographs (or draws) his or her working space and chooses to share that as an entry to First Contexts. With this in mind, we imagine that the exhibit might take on a dual nature - one part exhibit of art or design, one part documentary of artists' work spaces - or places where they make/find their art.

Manifest stands for the quality presentation, experience, and documentation of the visual arts, engaging students, professionals, and the public from around the world through accessible world-class exhibits, studio programs, and publications.

The main focus of Platform has been to present and produce contemporary art in Vaasa with emphasis on site specific art, community art, or art projects that have some local connection. Since an important part of Platform's activities are creating local interaction it gradually made sense to emphasize the residency program. The programme focuses on documentaries that distinguish themselves through their extraordinary artistic quality. UNDERDOX also shows feature films with a more documentary narrative style. Furthermore, it presents entertaining Documentaries that reinvent reality in seemingly authentic documentaries.
UNDERDOX disregards any genre limits and adds a new and youthful festival to Munich’s existing festival landscape.
