IN-OUT Festival will take place in Laznia for the fourth time. Just like last year, it will be open for the artists from all over the world. The Festival is supposed to select the most interesting video works which search for new formal solutions.

“Re/Positionierung – Critical Whiteness/Perspectives of Color”, a series of lectures, which took place at the NGBK in Berlin in 2009, provided a theoretical background about the interconnectivities of art, Whiteness, racism and empowerment. The intention of the forthcoming project at the NGBK is to offer space for practical art work dealing with these topics. The members of METANATIONALE/AG Re/Positionierung are addressing activists and artists, looking for interventions located between art and activism for its new project entitled “Making Mirrors – Of Bodies and Gazes”.

We welcome approaches concerned with themes such as colonialism, racism, critical whiteness, empowerment and Perspectives of Color making them accessible to a broad public and rendering them visible, audible, sensible.

Workplace for visual artist: Open Call for Applications

As a workplace for visual artists, FLACC creates the conceptual, organisational and technical conditions for realising unique artists’ projects. Every year, FLACC selects ten artists to set up a new project.
The selection is done on the basis of artistic criteria, in consultation with an external advisory committee. The ways in which artists challenge the notion of ‘workplace’ and redefine it through the qualities of their work also play a role. In each annual selection, FLACC aims to strike a balance between national and international artists, between beginners and experienced artists, and between autonomous art and/or research projects and projects that deal with the historical, geographical or social context of the workplace in more concrete terms . In consultation with each artist, a specific project is set up, tailored to the organisation and with a definite budget and timing.

FLACC is a non-profit association, recognised and subsidised by the national, regional and local authorities.

The One Button Challenge

A combination workshop and challenge to see who can build the most creative device using only a single button for user interaction.

This October, Openlab Workshops and Cybersonica present a One Button Challenge as part of the AND (Abandon Normal Devices) Festival in Manchester, UK.

In the run-up to the event, we are offering both a 5 week workshop in London at (and supported by) SPACE Studios, and an intensive workshop in Manchester on how to design and build your own One Button Device. We trust in your imagination to create devices which will amaze, surprise, entertain, inform, humour and perhaps even offend. So go on, ask yourself what your button would do… and take up the challenge!

The Urban Images symposium brings together an internationally renowned group of artists and scholars for a two-day program in order to discuss the field of artistic film and video related to architecture and urban space. The objective of the symposium is to expand theoretical concepts and artistic tools for understanding the inherent qualities of moving images and its relationship to urban culture. The program focuses on moving images’ influence on urban architecture, urban architecture’s relationship to avant-garde film, the city as a source for artistic film and video, and reflections on urban architecture in recent film and video art.

Flying Films Festival: Call for Films

On Thursday, September 16th, the second Flying Films Festival takes place at Morgenvogel Real Estate. Again it is devoted to the subject of flying. Video and other artists are invited to present their observations and imaginations on birds, but also on insects, clouds, rockets or UFOs at FFF.
After last year’s Lars Künstler this year our guest curator is Kevin Merz. Born 1978 he has directed and been involved in experimental video works and documentaries for the last 10 years. His works have been shown in several international festivals and museums.
Please send your videos between August 20th and September 7th via mail. The format is DVD (if others please talk to us). The duration of the films must not exceed 20 minutes. Material will not be sent back.

This one-day workshop is intended to give people the skills to develop their own personalized sensor instruments on the iThing, without the need to purchase a developers license, learn much coding or ?jailbreak’ their phone.

The workshop will suit people of multiple abilities. Those with no experience of using Pure Data will still be able to modify existing patches and turn them into sensor instruments, which is a great gateway into learning Pure Data itself. In the third year we call on people to submit films with viral messages for our online competition. It is part of the 26th International Short Film Festival Berlin and is held and hosted by interfilm Berlin, Zucker.Kommunikation and the Heinrich Boell Foundation.

5th One Take Film Festival

The transition between the title/end credits and the film itself can be
done by crossfading, or the title/end credits can be displayed in any
other way before and after the take the film is comprised of, but only on
a neutral, still background.

There are no restrictions regarding the running time of the films. Genres
eligible for submission are fictional, documentary and experimental films,
as well as commercial and music videos. Preview copies should be submitted
exclusively on DVD. Preview copies will not be returned.

Screening copies of the selected films should be submitted in one of the

Call for proposals: 2nd Conference of the network Visual Culture in Europe

The conference will focus on theinterplay between the enlargement of the European Union and transnational visual studies in the region. By juxtaposing issues such as intercultural negotiation, migratory aesthetics, diverse understandings of neighborliness, and symbolic struggle, this conference attempts to elaborate on the decolonial dilemmas that the reinvention and promotion of Europe as a coherent and diversecultural reality is facing today, both spatially and symbolically.

Scholars, policy-makers, curators, artists, and theoreticians are invited to provide insights into the geopolitical and intercultural contradictions/ potentialities that the idea of using visual commonalities for increasing diversity, cohesion and governance in the region entails.

The 2nd Conference of Visual Culture in Europe will be held at University of Barcelona, Spain on April 11-12, 2011.

Pacific Dance Fono 2010 now invites Pacific Island choreographers and dancers to apply for the Pacific Dance Fono: Choreographic Lab to be held during 15 to 30 October, 2010.

Choreographers are requested to submit an "expression of interest form".

The three choreographers selected for the choreographic lab will be provided with:
- a dance studio equipped with a sound system
- dancers
- amentor
- an allowance during the two week choreographic lab
- publicity and promotional opportunities

Call for application: LUX Associate Artists Programme 2010/11

The programme consists of a minimum of 12 monthly critical seminars taking place at LUX, exploring issues around artists’ moving image in the context of the artists’ own practice.

Applicants must be currently resident in the UK and have completed a relevant course of graduate or post-graduate education in the last five years (since 2005), in addition non-EU applicants must have the relevant visa to be able to live and study in the UK during the period of the programme .

The LUX Associate Artists Programme is for artists working with the moving image, who have completed a graduate or post-graduate course in the past five years. The programme aims to provide a mutually supportive context in which to develop work, and to benefit from networking and learning opportunities with arts professionals closely involved in artists’ moving image, with funding to realise a final group project.

International Opportunities Fund

SUMU Artist-in-Residence program in Turku

Arte Artists' Association's Residency SUMU offers one- to three-month residencies in 2011 to new media artists, working in the intersection of new technologies and contemporary art. This includes performance art and all types of new media: sound art, video art, installations, etc. Artists can apply to our residence once a year with an individual submission, which should include CV, samples of recent work and a project plan.

The residence is located in Turku, in the South-western coast of Finland. Artists are provided with free accommodation and studio. The artists must fund all their living expenses including food and transportation. Arte can help the artists with material costs up to 200 euros depending on the application.

Deadline:
September 30th 2010 (postmark). Session dates: the 2nd half of the year
2011.

2011 at the Creative Arts Units at Aberystwyth Arts Centre, part of Aberystwyth

Media and video artists all around the world are invited to send video for the first edition of Facade Video Festival that will be held in Plovdiv from 5th - 10th October, 2010.

Facade Video Festival is an annual video art exhibition taking video art projections into the wall of Houses in Old Town of Plovdiv, Facade Video Festival aims to create an interlock network of viewers and artists in which new forms of embodiment emerges throughout the experience of connecting art and the city. The theme is free.

ELIGIBILITY. Any author can participate with max 3 videos. Videos submitted must belong to the category of video art, have been completed on or after January 1, 2008, be in a single channel, be copyright controlled by the artist.

EXCHANGE RADICAL MOMENTS! Brandnew Europe Wide Live Art Festival

Exchange Radical Moments! is a brand new Europe-wide festival. It will take place simultaneously in cities across Europe – in Italy, Germany, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Latvia, the UK and Austria, among others on 11 November 2011 (11.11.11), showing site-specific interventions, public interventions, performances and live acts. It is the first time that such a festival takes place simultaneously across the continent.

The period between this open call and the events and actions that will take place on 11 November 2011 forms the ‘exchange phase’ of the project.

Die Fabrikanten are engaged in client and community based cultural work. Die Fabrikanten work as a communication office and at the same time carry out art projects – demanding to create a social surplus value. The intellectual approaches of Die Fabrikanten come from art, science and economy. Performance festival "GABRIEL LOEBELL AND FRIENDS" will take place for the 4th time on Oct. 29 & 30, 2010 in BALLHAUS OST in Berlin Prenzlauer Berg.

Likewise, we welcome all varieties of performance - visual, acoustic, choreographic, situational, participatory, scripted or improvisational, based on media etc. Each evening, 10-15 different artists will perform one after another on stage or any other place in the ballroom. Among the guests are Knut Klaßen, Marc Aschenbrenner, Wolfgang Betke, Dmitry Paranyushkin and many others.

Artists are invited to apply with a brief project proposal for a performance (approx. 10 min.) and links to their relevant work (internet video material like vimeo/youtube). Installative performances should consider the short intermission between the appearances.

The British Journal of Photography's - International Photography Award, 2010

BJP's International Photography Award has no theme. Photographs can be captured in any format, and in any style or genre. Anyone can enter, from the UK or abroad. All we ask is for fantastic images in two categories - a coherent body of work and a stunning single image.

Photographers are welcome to enter both categories, and to enter more than once. We have also extended the final deadline - you now have until 2pm on 30 September.

The Berlin based media art collective We Are Chop Chop and .HBC will collaborate with invited media and performance artists to explore a syncretism of advanced media technology, electronic music and the moving body.
