"All Photography" Art Competition

Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery announces a Juried Competition with an "All Photography" theme for the Month of September 2011. All photographers from around the world are called upon to make online submissions with the winners being included in the gallery's October 2011 online art group exhibition.

Light Space & Time encourages entries from all photographers regardless of where they reside and regardless of their experience or education in the art field. All digital, film, manipulated and alternative photographic and printing processes are welcome to submit.

The entry fee is $10.00 for two (2) entries or $15.00 three or more, up to five (5) entries. The winning selections will be exhibited and featured on the Light Space & Time Online Art Gallery for a one month period of time and then archived.

Awards will be for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places. In addition, 2 artists will be recognized with Honorable Mention awards. Depending on the amount and the quality of the entries these categories may be expanded and there may also be Special Recognition awards posted as well.

The theme for the September art competition is "All Photography" and the submission process and the deadline will end on September 28, 2011.

Winners of the "All Photography" Art Exhibition will receive extensive worldwide publicity in the form of email marketing, 70+ press release announcements, 65+ event announcements, social media marketing and website traffic in order to make the art world aware of the artist's accomplishments. There will also be links back to the artist's website as part of this achievement.

Project Selection

Projects will be assessed by a five-member committee made up of IDF staff and international experts. The list of ten projects selected to attend the Forum will be announced between September 25 - 30, 2011 at www.DOKweb.net. PARTICIPATION FEE
Successful applicants whose projects are selected have until October 7, 2011 to pay the participation fee.

The Office for Contemporary Art Norway was created to facilitate and promote contemporary visual arts production from Norway, and to strengthen its international visibility and position. One of the key means by which OCA pursues this goal is by offering financial support to Norwegian artists and international artists living and working in Norway to produce work for exhibitions internationally; to Norwegian art professionals organising exhibitions and projects abroad; and to international institutions and curators to work more comprehensively and thoroughly with artists, art groups and professionals from Norway, in order to more accurately convey the critical impulse behind their work. OCA also provides artists, art professionals, curators and cultural producers with the possibility to network within the international arts community.

OCA accepts applications for assessment by an international jury on four designated deadlines throughout the year. Applications are accepted from Norwegian artists, international artists with permanent residence in Norway and international non-profit organisations. Priority is given to exhibitions taking place in key international art institutions and project spaces. Support is also given to solo and group exhibitions including Norwegian artists and practitioners initiated by international curators and to Norwegian art professionals organising exhibitions and projects abroad. The objective for support is to foster the visibility and consideration of Norwegian art abroad, to promote innovative artistic production, and to facilitate a creative dialogue and collaboration in the context of contemporary cultural practice.

Collaboration Grants support independent cultural organisations working together across borders and disciplines.

Collaboration Grants fund transnational, cross-sectoral activities by independent cultural and artistic organisations working together or with organisations from other sectors. The main applicant needs to be a cultural organisation based in Europe (EU Europe and EU Neighbourhood region), while partner applicants can work in sectors outside the cultural field.

ECF regards the ideal ‘collaboration’ as one that brings a renewed understanding of Europe to people of all backgrounds, and inspires them to regard the world’s future as a shared enterprise. We particularly admire efforts that are daring, different and challenge the status quo. The average award funded is €15,000 with the maximum being €30,000.

Clinton Hill / Allen Tran Foundation Curator's Grants: Grants to Curators Planning Exhibitions

The Clinton Hill / Allen Tran Foundation offers support to the critical early stages of exhibition planning in American museums.

Three grants of $5,000 each will be offered to curators contemplating exhibitions which include work by artists born between 1920 and 1960. Funds would be dedicated to travel, research materials (books; photographs; software, etc.) and other essential elements not typically budgeted by museums until an exhibition proposal is finally presented and officially approved.

The Foundation is not offering subvention of a curator's basic salary.

Reflecting the life and interests of Clinton Hill, strong preference will be given to exhibition proposals involving painting, sculpture and works on paper, especially those featuring paper as a primary medium.

The contemplated exhibition may not be one already scheduled by the home institution. It must have a projected opening within the next four years.

This fellowship has a duration of 5 months, from February 15 - July 15, 2012.

Stipend
The selected applicant receives a fellowship of € 10,000 to defray costs of travel, accommodation and expenses.

Eligibility & Application Guidelines
Interested applicants must provide:
a) At least 2 years of work experience in the contemporary art field, e.g. museums, galleries, nonprofit organizations, artist’s studio, etcetera; and ideally with the production of participatory art work and programs;
b) Excellent writing skills, and strong communication and organizational skills; Language requirements: fluent in written and spoken English, German advantaged;
c) Reside in Kassel during February – July 2012.

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is offering a new Master of Arts´ programme in Critical Studies. It is an artistic-academic course of study that lasts four semesters with an artistic-academic project being developed in the final semester. The course is completed with a Master of Arts' (MA) degree. The programme is aimed at students who either possess a diploma or B.A. in an academic subject or those who have achieved a corresponding qualification in an artistic subject. It is intended to prepare students for academic doctoral studies, primarily in art theory and cultural studies but also in the disciplines of education in the arts and in architecture. It is intended to equip students to continue artistic research towards a Ph.D. in practice or a comparable qualification. It is intended to prepare students for activities in public artistic and cultural fields of practice, especially for work in journalism, specialised and academic journalism as well as for curatorial, archival, etc.

Students will work in small teams and groups of rarely more than ten. They will be tutored by lecturers from a large pool from almost all the institutes at the academy. There will be a constant change in lecturing staff to ensure a variety of perspectives and expertise. Nevertheless, continuity in staff will also be guaranteed.

Artists are invited to submit works for the 2011 exhibition

Sponsored by ING Wholesale Banking, this is an exhibition of small works independently selected by six prominent figures from the art world: two artists, two collectors and two critics.

The 2011 selectors will include: Artists, Eileen Cooper RA and Lisa Wright; Collectors, John Pluthero (Chairman, Cable & Wireless Worldwide and founder of abstract critical) and John Deston (Gallery Manger, The Mall Galleries, London) and critics, Ossian Ward (Visual Arts Editor, Time Out, London) and Brian Sewell (Art Critic). They will each select and curate their own section of the exhibition.

The uniqueness of having each work chosen by an eminent individual, unlike in a group selected show, has earned the exhibition an excellent reputation among art lovers and collectors alike. Work is selected by open submission and also from artists invited by the selectors.

Painting, prints, drawing, photography and sculpture are accepted, the only criteria being that works should not exceed 20 inches in their largest dimension and that all works must be for sale. Artists may submit up to six works. An exhibition of selected works will take place at The Mall Galleries, London from 10 – 20 November 2011.

The studio space is located at 547 West 27th Street, in the heart of the Chelsea art community of New York City. The setting offers a community of art professionals and commercial as well as non-profit galleries and art spaces. The studio's proximity to the contemporary art center makes it a convenient place to see renowned exhibitions in the neighborhood, as well as arranging studio visits with gallerists, critics and curators.

All applicants must be residents of the United States or have a valid visa not expiring before the end of the program, 18 years or older, may not be enrolled in any degree seeking program and must be able to demonstrate need for a studio. The Contemporary Art Society, with Leeds Art Gallery are inviting proposals from curating and museum studies graduates from across the UK who have been out of full time education for no longer than two years.

Starting Point, now in its second year, will offer two curators the opportunity to select a small cluster of works from the collection to be installed as part of Leeds Art Gallery’s public programme in 2012.

The Leeds Art Collection Fund (LCAF) has been supporting the visual arts in Leeds since 1912 to mark their centenary Leeds Art Gallery are planning a series of special events in the gallery over the course of next year. As a way of responding we are asking that proposals draw on the list of works whose acquisitions have been supported by the Leeds Art Collection Fund. Applications should be no more than 500 words and accompanied with a CV.

While HMC does not provide funding for residencies, we are helping to facilitate the creation of program, the cost of the exhibitions and cover %40 of total cost, artists cover %60. We encourage the applicants to apply for a grant or scholarship. The artist needs to calculate, travel, health insurance, for lunch and dinner for the duration of their stay at the residency. The December residency cost for the artists $950.
The Hungarian Multicultural Center is a Hungary based non-profit organization. The HMC invites interested visual artists, writers, performers to submit application for its residency program in Budapest, Hungary. The residencies offer participants to interact with other artists representing a variety of cultures and backgrounds. Accepted applicants are expected to speak and understand English. The residence offers shared room/bath as living quarters. Room, workshop, exhibition, seminar, artist talk, etc are all included in the cost.

Artists will give at least one informal public slide/powerpoint/DVD/CD presentation (max. 45 minutes) about their work during their stay at the HMC and leave one exhibition ready art work made during the residency as a donation to the HMC. Exhibitions, workshops and lectures will be arranged in Budapest.

The London Group Open Exhibition 2011

The London Group Open Exhibition 2011 calls for entries from artists working in any medium.

The London Group s 2011 Open Exhibition will be staged in two parts during October/November 2011 at The Cello Factory, 33-34 Cornwall Road, London, SE1 1RU. Both parts of the exhibition will include works by London Group members and works by non-members selected from open submission. At least half the works in both shows will be by non-members. All selected exhibitors will show a maximum of one work. Approximately 120 works will be shown in total.

The selectors for The London Group Open 2011 are William Feaver (painter, critic, writer and broadcaster) and Jenni Lomax (Director, Camden Arts Centre, London).

A full colour catalogue showing all works will be produced and distributed free of charge. Prizes will be awarded to non-members up to £4,400 in value.



Entry Procedure

Up to three submissions can be made, although no more than one work per artist may be selected. A non-refundable administration fee is payable at the time of submission for each work submitted (£20 for first submission, £15 for second and £10 for third). Cheques should be made payable to The London Group. Payments by credit or debit card cannot be accepted.

ASPECT-EZ is a new series of events and DVD publications coordinated by ASPECT to provide support for emerging artists. text + image is the third installment of ASPECT-EZ. For this volume we are seeking time-based works that explore the relationship between text and image.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: SEPTEMBER 7 2011

Work selected for the event will be featured on a limited-run DVD, published by Aspect. Any art that is best captured with time-based media is suitable for the show. Work or documentation of work should be under 5 minutes, unless convincingly argued otherwise. We will also accept proposals for live performance or installation to be exhibited at the event, the documentation of which will be featured on the DVD.

Everyone selected for the show will be eligible for the ASPECT Selects prize. The ASPECT curatorial team will award one participant an ASPECT subscription.

Film-maker/Animator for Music Video (Berlin)

Ray Gibson - The Singing Painter - is inviting video artists to submit applications to write and Direct a music video for an upcoming album this year. The music video will be approx 3:30 of footage.

The music video will be released and promoted in Germany and the UK. Artists will not be paid for creating the music video - it is expected that a film-maker will create a short film they can send to film festivals and use to promote their own work, from which the music video will be cut. Joint rights to the film and music video also create a chance to have their project and ideas promoted by Ray's record label across Europe and beyond. Ray is mostly interested in ideas involving animation. The video should include the singer, Ray Gibson, in some way... but all ideas are welcome as long as they represent the mood of the song, and are attractive enough for MTV, Viva, ZDF, BBC etc...

Design interactive projects for miniMAL

For Nuit Blanche and Todays Art Festival in Brussels we invite you to take control of miniMAL, the low-res, low-tech media facade created by iMAL during the Media Facade Festival Europe 2010.

This 4 days workshop will be dedicated to the design and development of interactive interfaces and softwares to drive the 18 LED spotlights behind iMAL's windows.

Design interaction through various inputs (microphone, webcam, sensors, mobile devices, web data,...) and create surprising visualisations on miniMAL that will be presented during Nuit Blanche and the Todays Art Festival in Brussels! Projects interacting with iMAL's urban context and passer-by's will be favoured.



The media facade workshop is targeted to artists, creative designers and developers working with Processing and if necessary Arduino. Basic knowledge of these software environments is required! However during the workshop you will be followed and supported by iMAL's team.

The Cultural Policy and Management Yearbook (KPY Yearbook) calls for the submission of academic articles and book reviews on any field of cultural policy and management. The goal of the KPY Yearbook is to promote a new understanding towards cultural policy issues in Turkey, paying more attention to more inclusive and participatory approaches which take cultural diversity of the country into account. In addition it includes also recent developments of the cultural sector in Turkey and throughout the world and its contribution to the management of culture.
The KPY Yearbook spotlights developments in the practice of cultural policy and management through original interviews with leading national/international cultural policy and management theorists and practitioners, and also publishes conference extracts, book reviews.

The third issue of the Yearbook’s focus is Heritage for Society. We call for articles and reviews, that discuss and investigate the theory and practice of cultural heritage management and policies in Turkey and/or Europe and regional context, based on the principles of the Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on “Value of Cultural Heritage for Society” (Faro, 1995).

Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 - Book and Online Exhibition

INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR ENTRIES

Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolios in the Center's Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 book and online exhibition.

With selection for this exhibition, featured artist's work will be seen by an international audience of collectors, curators, art consultants, and other advocates of fine art photography. Each participant will be included in the Center's Online Gallery exhibition as well as published in the Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 Book. Select artists also will receive a blog feature at the Center's blog PERSPECTIVES.

The juror will select one portfolio to be the first presented in the book and will select an image from the portfolio to be the book cover.

One photographer will be chosen to display their portfolio in the Center's South Gallery.

Each participating artist will receive a complementary book.

The exhibition is open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

Non-Members: $85 for the first portfolio (12 images)

Additional portfolios may be submitted for $85. There is no limit to the number of portfolios that may be submitted.

Nodar Artist Residency Program 2012 - Rural Architechtures

Binaural is a Portuguese non-profit Cultural Organization founded in 2004 with the aim of promoting the exploration and research in sound / visual and new media arts, focusing on the crossing of media and languages and on the articulation between the artistic production and the surrounding context, particularly through its activities in the rural space of Nodar.

The 2012 Nodar Artist Residency Program will specifically explore the interactions between landscape, architecture and sound in the rural context of the Gralheira Mountains, municipality of São Pedro do Sul.

12 art projects by individual artists or collectives will be selected. The art works will acoustically "activate" different types of rural constructions, through the creation of context-specific sound installations and sculptures.

Ifa's role is to promote cultural dialogue and to help people form a clearer picture of each other. Ifa also functions as a mediator of German foreign cultural policy. The Institute is funded by the German Foreign Office, the state of Baden-Württemberg and the city of Stuttgart.

The Rave Scholarships contribute to further practical training in realising art exhibitions. These scholarships are being awarded to young curators, restorers, museum technicians and cultural managers from countries in transition and developing countries.

Benefits
• A monthly lump sum of 1,300 euros for a scholarship period of three to six months

manifestaZOOne 2011: open call for the international contest for urban bill-board art

The association Art.ur presents the fifth edition of the Urban Art Exhibition contest, manifestaZOOne. The intention of this project that utilizes public space which has been coordinated in partnership with the international literature exhibition Scrittorincittà (writers in the city) for three years, is to promote communication of socially sensitive issues in the form of large billboards, commenting in a direct and often ironic way on the theme of the exhibition. The objective of the exhibition is to stimulate creative communication to display informative and creative art to the wider public that move daily through the city.
Typically utilized for commercial advertising, the billboard will instead become a space for reflection where the contest message is inserted into in the daily lives of city citizens.

The candidates will need to produce a graphical work to be printed 6 meters by 3 meters.

The winning work or works, at the discretion of the judges, will be printed in the above dimensions and displayed in various advertising billboards within the city of Cuneo as well as three other cities within the Cuneo Provence in November 2011.

The theme that candidates must base their work on is: “SOS-tainable horizons”
It is essential consider the renewable; the need to shift to ecologically sustainable living is urgent; it is fundamental to review our social, economical, individual and collective needs; it is essential to think of new forms of energy and the responsible usage of energy; it is crucial to educate ourselves and others to think and act according to ecosophy; it is important to develop ecological politics.

The winning work will receive a prize of 1000 euros.

The NARS Foundation Juried Solo Exhibition Program

We are pleased to announce the open call for our first Juried Solo Exhibition. The NARS Juried Solo Exhibition Program provides emerging and underrepresented national and international artists with the opportunity to present a solo exhibition at the NARS Gallery. The aim of the program is to foster new dialogue and to create a forum for young artists to experiment and exchange ideas with a wider audience. The Juror for this year's competition is Nat Trotman, Associate Curator at the Guggenheim Museum.

The artist must present a strong cohesive body of work produced within the last five years. If accepted, only the artwork included in the proposal will be considered for the exhibition. All the artwork must be available for the entire term of the exhibition. All artwork must be ready for hanging (suitably framed and/or wired for hanging), and sculptors may be required to supply pedestals.

The NARS Gallery is located on the third floor of an industrial building surrounded by artists’ studios. Please review the photographs and gallery floor plan before submitting your proposal.

Cill Rialaig is located in a very remote Gaeltacht, or Irish-speaking, area. Its cottages are living-work spaces that provide for residents’ essential work and living needs. They are very simple without modern accoutrements of television, telephones or internet. The remote location means that there are very few distractions other than the landscape; it is a true retreat.

Residencies are offered free of charge, although there is a small service fee for utilities. Residents provide their own transportation, food and supplies. The selection committee meets twice a year, and the next deadline for applications is 15 September 2011. The following deadline is 15 March 2012.

Arquetopia Visual Arts Production Grant

The Arquetopia Visual Arts Production Grant is a quarterly grant designed to disburse small but critical funding needed for art production. It is intended to aid artists in the production of experimental or non-traditional work that otherwise would be difficult to fund.

Grant is available to all domestic as well as international emerging and established artists working in various media including but not limited to: painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, photography, video, new media, ephemeral, time-based work, performance, etc.

All proposals are welcome. Innovative projects addressing social issues with a non-traditional creative process to create cutting-edge work will be given priority. The proposed production should be compelling, having a clear intention in terms of the concept and a final outcome which demonstrates excellence in the field. Final work must be exhibited publicly.

Eligibility
Application eligibility is open to emerging, mid-career and established, domestic and international artists 18 years of age and up. Since Arquetopia’s mission is to promote diversity, we especially encourage artists from Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East. As a stipulation for eligibility, prospective recipients shall be willing to donate one of their available works, selected by mutual agreement in return for the award, to Arquetopia’s permanent collection.

These stays go along with monthly stipends and can last as long as four months in total. The fellows can work highly focused during this period of time in the Foundation Kuenstlerdorf Schoeppingen (NRW, Germany) studios, apartments and flats on their respective art, book or score projects. With in total 14 fellows being on site at the same time and coming from different sectors of work a comprehensive and inspired exchange of ideas takes place. The Pro Artibus foundation is an independent, non-profit organisation with a mission to promote visual arts. It is located in the town of Ekenäs in Raseborg, 100 km southwest of Helsinki http://www.raseborg.fi. The foundation offers established foreign artists free accommodation and work facilities for a period of 2-3 months. The objective is to give foreign artists a chance to familiarize themselves with the region and the Swedish Finnish society, bringing a fresh element from other cultures to the local cultural life.

A selection committee annually selects 4-5 visiting artists, based on applications. Invited artists have access to a 62m2 fully furnished apartment with 4 rooms and a kitchen in a building located on the campus of NOVIA University of applied sciences. Studio and exhibition facilities, altogether 135m2 in the same building.

The Pro Artibus Foundation provides the visiting artist opportunities to exhibit works produced during the residency. The foundation also organizes opportunities for the artist to familiarize with the surrounding area and its culture. Participating artist is expected to give short lectures and/or arrange workshops for students in the local schools. One work of art, produced during the residency, is to be donated to art collection of Pro Artibus.

We invite artists, researchers, organizers, to apply for a residency at MoKS.

What we are looking for: People who are interested about researching and carrying on experiments on sustainable models of operation. Be it either in soft or hardware, in social or physical structures, human interactive processes or engineering techniques- we are looking for creative models of sensitive change and evolvement. The studio is available to use free of charge from March 1st through November 30th. Residency periods can be arranged from 2 to 8 months. On the occasion of the 19th Annual Conference in Helsinki of ENCATC (European Network of Cultural Administration Training Centres), the ENCATC Thematic Area ”Arts and Health” will join forces for a debate about the art, culture and cultural management in the context of health.

Within ENCATC our strengths are in two areas: in education/training and in administration. We have important competencies to offer in order to enrich the cooperation with the social services and health sector. In this meeting we are focusing on the role of art, artist and cultural manager in the context. In the meeting we are discussing which opportunities and challenges we see relevant for the future. How does education/training monitor the changes?

The keynotes of the meeting include a presentation Turku 2011: Culture does good by R&D Manager Jukka Saukkolin.

This invitation is to everybody who shares the point of view of the meaning and importance of art, art based practices and services for rehabilitation and for community and for social purposes. Art and arts based practices within health settings have been widely discussed during the past years as there is an obvious, growing demand and financial pressure for finding and developing new and more effective working methods. DCCAH Call to Curators - 5x5 Temporary Public Art Initiative

5x5 is a public art initiative that will result in twenty-five groundbreaking temporary public art installations that will be installed concurrently throughout the District of Columbia. DCCAH seeks five highly-experienced and innovative Curators to each identify and work with five artists to create exciting, temporary art works in a variety of media and art forms in public spaces throughout the District of Columbia. The resulting twenty-five temporary public art installations will activate and enliven vacant, dormant, and open spaces and bring cutting edge creativity and artistic expression to neighborhoods across the District.

The competition is open to all professional curators or curatorial organizations with site-specific and/or temporary public art experience; however preference will be given to curators who reside in the District of Columbia and curators who include DC-based artists..

Based on their submitted qualifications, 8-10 Curators or Curatorial Teams will be shortlisted and awarded an honorarium of $1,000.00 to create a site-specific proposal that outlines their curatorial approach and vision.

Currently, DCCAH has allocated up to $100,000 per curator for the artist and curator fees, design, fabrication, installation and de-installation of five sites. The five selected curators will lead the 5x5 implementation process and will manage and oversee each artist’s concept(s), budget(s), and schedule(s). Additional funds for reimbursement of travel expenses may be available.

The Door Prize for Painting: Call for Entries

The Door Prize is an art competition exclusively for painters, providing a unique and affordable opportunity for both students and practicing artists to exhibit their work in a major exhibition in the UK.

The voluntarily run project, directed by Antria Pelekanou (co-director of ‘Persona Art Festival’ and chief curator of ‘A Moving Exhibition’) will run from 3-17 March 2012 at the Nails Gallery in Bristol city centre. The initiative of this project is to enhance the experience of Bristol’s residents and visitors, building on Bristol’s reputation as a cultural and creative city.

With leading institutions such as Spike Island and Arnolfini boosting Bristol's art scene, we aim to invite artists from all over the globe to visit Bristol, showcase their artwork, and further enhance the vibrant scene the city has to offer.

The works will be selected by a combination of the judging panel and the public vote. The winner of The Door Prize will receive an award specially commissioned from London based artist Desiree Ickerodt, and a Solo exhibition. Along with the prestige of being the winner of the first Door Prize, the winner will also be given a rare opportunity to become actively involved in the judging process of The Door Prize 2013. In addition to the winner, there will be two runners up who will both receive a free designed publication including a selected part of their portfolio. One of the two runners up will be commissioned to create the 2013 Door Prize award.

The Door Prize is open to painters all over the world. We will accept applications by e-mail only and there is an application fee of £10 which is non-refundable.

The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund

IdeasTap, the online arts and funding organisation, has teamed up with Sky Arts to launch a new bursary for young artists.

The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund will offer five young artists £30,000 each to fund their work for a full year. The fund is open to artists aged 18-30 living in the UK and Ireland, and is designed to bridge the gap between formal education and becoming a working artist.

The Sky Arts Ignition: Futures Fund is open to individual artists working in visual art, theatre, performance art, film, music, dance or literature.

The scheme will also provide each artist with a mentor from Sky, who will help develop their skills and knowledge in the arts and commercial sector. The artists will also have the opportunity to showcase their work on Sky Arts – be it on TV, online or on demand.

The deadline for applicants is 19th September 2011. Two winners will be selected during this round of funding. The next round will open in early 2012 from which three further winners will be chosen.

Cultural Association “Tapirulan”, with the sponsorship of “Centro Fumetto Andrea Pazienza”, “Associazione Illustratori” and “Sarmede – Paese della fiaba”, is proud to announce the seventh edition of the contest for illustrators.

The purpose of the competition is to select the forty authors to be included in the exhibition «Gli illustratori di Tapirulan» (The illustrators of Tapirulan), to be held in Cremona from December 3 2011 to January 29 2012. After Tony Wolf, Milo Manara, Silver, Sergio Toppi and Guido Scarabottolo, the jury is now directed by another famous cartoonist: Roberto Innocenti.

All forty illustrations selected by the jury will be published on the catalogue and 12 of them also on the Calendar of year 2012.

The theme explores the ways in which the Right and Left side of the brain process information differently and the behavioral science that occurs when a person generally uses one side more than the other.

The exhibition space consists of two connected rooms. The first exploring the left side's linear tendencies for processng mathematics, logical reasoning and analytical thinking and the right room represents the right side of the brain that uses intuition,creativity and distills information from a whole visual outcome to fragmented parts.

We are accepting proposals of all art forms;
painting, print, sculpture, installation, performance, video and photography that reflect or explore either the right or left brain side tendencies.

The 8th Encuentro of the Hemispheric Institute seeks to examine the broad intersections between urban space, performance and political/artistic action in the Americas. From the critical poetics of body art to the occupation of public space by social movements, the event invites participants to explore the borders, identities and practices through which subjectivities, hegemonies and counter-hegemonies are constructed in the spaces of the city and beyond. We are particularly interested in the ways in which bodies both interpellate and are interpellated, mobilize and are mobilized, by and around the diverse and complex passions that define our globalized and mediatized present—fear, hatred, disenchantment, hope and faith, among others.

Every two years, the Hemispheric Institute hosts an Encuentro—part academic conference, part performance festival—in a different site in the Americas. Fostering experimentation, dialogue, and collaboration, each Encuentro brings together approximately five hundred scholars, artists, activists and students to take part in a ten-day program of keynote lectures, work groups, performances, installations, roundtable discussions, visual arts exhibits, video screenings and hands-on performance workshops. As we explore the relationship between expressive culture and politics in the Americas, we build on the premise that the practices we study and participate in cannot be thought from any one place, no single vantage point or theory can account for them. Encuentro participants are encouraged to work across disciplines and share their work in English, Spanish or Portuguese.

Swedenborg Short Film Festival 2011

The Swedenborg Short Film Festival 2011 is now open for entries and will place in the Society’s grade II listed neo-classical Hall. Following the success of last year, we hope the festival will continue to establish itself as an annual landmark event on the UK film calendar.

Featuring films of 30 mins or less, the heart of the Festival is to showcase the latest new and established talent. Films should respond to themes encountered in the work of scientist, philosopher, radical theologian and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg (1688 - 1772). Submissions are invited on a variety of themes and genres. Selected submissions will be screened to a public audience at Swedenborg Hall; at the closing of the festival an award will be given for Best Film.

* All film submissions must be sent in DVD format by post, with a completed application form (available to download below).

* An administration fee of £5 is placed on all submissions.

The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded to works that exist only for a moment or a short period of time.The purpose of the award is to promote such works whose forms consist of ephemeral situations.

The SZPILMAN AWARD is awarded annually.

The prize winner receives the Jackpot Stipendium.
This scholarship consists of three parts:

A challenge cup,
10 days of accommodation in Cimochowizna (Poland), and
a sum of money in cash.

The amount of money is dynamic. SZPILMAN is raising money parallel to
the competition. The prize winner receives the money that is raised
until September 30, 2011. The current score may be checked here. Among the applicants, one award winner will be identified. The challenge cup will be handed over to the next prize winner in the subsequent year.

Archisle, a project hosted by the Société Jersiaise, St. Helier, Jersey, Channel Islands aims to promote contemporary photography through an ongoing programme of exhibitions, educational initiatives and commissions.

Certain natural environments have figured prominently in humanity’s dreams of the ideal world: they are the forest, the seashore, the valley and the Island’. Islands, both real and fictional, have inspired artists and writers since antiquity. But islands can be sites of paradox: prison or paradise, exiled to, or exiled from.

Islands support unique and fragile ecosystems which are vulnerable to environmental stress and invasive species. Today, Island Studies is an active field of research seeking to define the nature of islandness, ‘…a complex expression of identity that attaches to places smaller than continents and surrounded entirely by water.

Every exhibit at HERE is a site-specific installation that stretches our
understanding of the words “art” and “performance,” creating a multi-layered experience for our patrons that sticks with them as they move from one space to the next. HEREart presents 5-6 exhibitions annually, curated by guest curators. Exhibitions will take place between January - December 2012 and include curator-driven collaborations between artists and large-scale initiatives by solo artists. We highly recommend visiting our space prior to submitting a proposal so that you can attain an understanding of the unique and dynamic nature of the space. We encourage proposals which draw from the imagination, but keep in mind limited resources. HEREArt will provide one art installer/deinstaller and a $400 budget (which must include all shipping and transportation costs). We will also cover the costs to promote the show via our website, dedicated e-blasts, press release, and postcards.

New Adventures in Sound Art (NAISA) invites artists of all ages and nationalities to submit works on the theme FREEDOM for consideration in New Adventures in Sound Art’s 2012 programming in Toronto, Canada.

Using the theme of FREEDOM for its 2012 programming, NAISA will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of John Cage, an artist that challenged established artistic conventions in many fields.

Preference in programming will be given to works that respond in some way to the theme of FREEDOM. Individual interpretations or variations on the theme are encouraged, but should be realized with sound as the primary component. NAISA would also like to encourage artists to submit works for live performance, gallery exhibit, screening, webcast or audio stream, radio broadcast, network or translocal performance, mobile experiences and any other emergingformats that include sound as a primary element.

It should be noted that although NAISA presents works by international artists, NAISA especially encourages submissions from Canadian artists as it’s mandate is to present Canadian works within an international context.

Kettle’s Yard - Contemporary commissions

Kettle’s Yard is embarking on an exciting period of development from September 2011, when we will be building a new education wing adjacent to the gallery on Castle Street. This extension is planned to open in January 2013.

We are launching a series of artists’ commissions to be undertaken during this period of development, and invite applications which address one or more of three thematic briefs:Research; Architectural; Socially engaged practices

We are looking for artists who will engage with Kettle’s Yard - the nature and history of the site and its collection, what happens here and the people involved - in a sensitive and intelligent manner. We are particularly interested in exploring new ways of working with artists across some or all our activities, including exhibitions, music, events and public programmes, as well as our online presence and digital platforms for engagement.

Proposals should include a letter of interest and outline of your approach to the commission, an up-to-date cv, supporting images, up to 2 showreels and or documents (no more than 10 sheets of paper and/or 2 publications). All proposals should include a summary budget and timescale.

A shortlist of artists will be selected from these submissions and these artists will be invited to attend an interview at Kettle’s Yard. A more detailed proposal may also be requested.

Residency Program at the Bemis Center

The Residency Program at the Bemis Center was started by artists for artists and is a program that truly trusts artists and seeks to support the creative process. The Residency Program provides support in the form of time, space and monthly stipends to 36 artists per year. Three month residencies allow artists time to reflect, research and take risks. Our famously large live/work studios and installation spaces allow artists to do the work they cannot do elsewhere. Access to on-site facilities and a monthly stipend of $750, to be spent however the artist chooses, allow each artist to concentrate fully on their creative process.

Artists are asked to leave one piece of art and give a twenty minute public lecture about their workThe residency program is designed to be flexible to reflect the unique processes and preferences of individual artists. Sowing Seeds2011 - International Artist Village Residency

It’s a great honor for us to invite visual and performing artists and art critics for the ‘Sowing Seeds Artist Village Residency’ in the most colorful State of India, which is known for its rich cultural tradition. Visual artists, performing artists, art critics and local community will collaborate to create work about environment and social development in rural Rajasthan (INDIA).There will be opportunities for collaborative work that interacts with the rural environment.

The artist residency will bring together 15 international artists practicing in a wide variety of media, collaboration, outdoor sculpture, documentation, or performing to bring benefit to a specific site and share ideas and methods for a period of 14 days in the village of Barmer, Rajasthan (INDIA).

The artists residency will provide the selected artists with full lodging and food, work space, local transportation and a small material stipend.
