Tulca 2012 Deadline: 13 August 2012 @ 5pm

TULCA 2012 Open Submission is open to Irish and international artists working in all media in direct response to the curatorial concept. Tulca 2012 is to be curated by Greg McCartney whose curatorial focus is on, in the widest sense landscape. Whether its arrogance, over-confidence or simply complacency we tend to take our personal landscapes for granted. Until there’s a sudden seismic shift and we’re left wondering what went wrong and who exactly is to blame. Tulca 2012 will be all about landscape, progression/regression, in essence change. It is about psychological landscapes as much as the physical geography. An interest in landscape is at its heart an interest in people and how they react to transformation. The rationale behind this year’s Tulca is a response to the current economic circumstances in Ireland and Europe and the sudden revisions this has caused. It isn’t necessarily about the current climate per se but is rather intended as a meditation on the micro and macro...

The aim of the smacznego! Foundation (pl for ‘tasty!’) is to investigate sidetracks and verges of culture. This is often the place where most interesting phenomena are hidden along with their creators, whose firm noncomformism condemns them for both social and artistic exclusion. Our foundation is commited to the task of revealing at least some of the brave ideas of people, for whom so-called ‘artistic community’ is an artificial and too narrow-minded a milieu. Our interests consist primarily of visual arts and music. An important facet of our activities is also an attempt to form social awareness of marginalized artistic phenomena of Polish art. But we are also open to co-operate with artists beyond boundaries.

Call for papers: Cybernetics Revisited
•Application Deadline

31.08.2012

What if we explore Pickering’s arguments further and locate them into the interactive media art field, thereby investigating the status of cybernetics today in art, technology and science? What levels of ‘order’ and systematic communication enter into the transdisciplinary artistic, technological and scientific set-up of present-day cross-domain laboratories, and practice-based theoretical production and experiments?
Von Foerster coined the idea of a ‘cybernetics of cybernetics’ as a way to analyze the control of control and the (set-up of) communication of communication(-systems). The question is if a ‘third order’ cybernetics is emerging… and, if so, what would it entail?
Paper Proposals dealing with one or more of the following subjects within this conceptual framing will be welcome: (Norbert) Wiener Classic, Cybernetics (art and politics), Bio-cybernetics, Interactive media art – towards a ‘third order’?

he Patagonia Outdoor clothing company Patagonia's environmental grant program supports small, grassroots organizations that have provocative direct-action agendas and are working on multi-pronged campaigns to preserve and protect the environment. The program seeks to fund work that is action-oriented, builds public involvement and support, is strategic, focuses on root causes, accomplishes specific goals and objectives, and demonstrates a commitment to long-term change.

The company does not fund organizations without 501(c)(3) status or an eligible fiscal sponsor. Grants will not be provided for general environmental education efforts; land acquisition, land trusts, or conservation easements; research (unless it is in direct support of a developed plan for specific action to alleviate an environmental problem); environmental conferences; endowment funds; political campaigns; or green building projects.

Most grants are in the range of $3,000 to $8,000.

Reflective practice; as a form of self analysis or critique of one’s creative working process, is an important means of developing an intimate understanding of the work itself. Allowing for a meditative review of the artist’s chosen processes and methodologies, this system of documentation and analysis contributes to the development of their practice in terms of progressive evaluation and self awareness.

Online blogs, written journals, sketchbooks and audio and video logs are popular outlets for ongoing reflective documentation. Occupy Paper are interested in uncovering contemporary examples of these with the intent of highlighting the various techniques and structures employed by artists.

This event is a unique artistic and cultural platform in Europe for artists, professional networks and various audiences.
The Rencontres Internationales offers more than just a simple presentation of works. It introduces an intercultural forum gathering various guests from all over the world - artists and filmmakers, institutions and emerging organizations - to testify of their reflections and their experiences, but also of artistic and cultural contexts that are often undergoing deep changes.
The Rencontres Internationales reflects specificities and convergences of artistic practices between new cinema and contemporary art, explores emerging media art practices and their critical purposes, and makes possible a necessary time where points of view meet and are exchanged.
