INTERNATIONAL VISUAL ARTISTS | Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral
For 2014, the residence fellowships will be awarded exclusively for painting. In future, each fellowship will be awarded for a different artistic genre. This offering, which is unique in Germany, is intended to enable deeper mutual creative cross-fertilisation among the resident artists. It will also lead to a more intensive specialist exchange of ideas with external artists, speakers, teachers, curators, etc. For 2014, the Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral is awarding two 3-month residential fellowships and four 9-month residential fellowships. The monthly allowance for the residential fellowships is being increased from 2014 to 1,400 Euro
Two fellowships are awarded for the period of three months. The residence for the 3-month fellowships begins in March 2014.
Four fellowships are awarded for the period of nine months. For the 9-month fellowships the yearly term of residence begins in June.

Artists’ residence Künstlerhaus Schloss Balmoral in Bad Ems was founded in 1995 and is a place of reflection, artistic production, discussion and meeting. It supports visual artists from all over the world by awarding a total of six artists-in-residence fellowships.
The Künstlerhaus is publicly presented through lectures, concerts and exhibitions. Works by the fellows are regularly shown in ‘Made in Balmoral’, the Künstlerhaus’s exhibition space in the Bad Ems city centre. Schloss Balmoral sees itself as an interface between artistic work and theoretical reflection and as a point of contact between former and present fellows. Balmoral intends to build a bridge between the artists' present and their future.

The International Residency at the Darling Foundry is supported by the Canada Council for the Arts.The program supports foreign visual artists from outside of Canada. One residency of six months will be awarded. The schedule of the residency is from the beginning of January 2013 to the end of June 2013. The resident artist will receive a grant amount of $23,000 CDN which contributes towards travel, subsistence, and production costs.
The resident artist will be provided with a studio measuring 100 m² and a separate living accommodation (for single occupancy), with access to common living spaces. In addition, the Darling Foundry provides the laureate with organizational and technical assistance, promotion and networking opportunities. The resident artist will have the option to participate in open studio events, studio visits by arts professionals, and trips to artistic events. Applications are evaluated by a selection committee consisting of arts professionals.
The Darling Foundry, located in Old Montreal (Quebec, Canada), is an alternative visual arts complex with an outstanding architectural design. The Darling Foundry provides opportunities for research, creation, production, and exhibition. Its multifaceted spaces, spanning 3500 m², provide room for residency studios, living accommodations, technical workshops, gallery spaces, a restaurant and offices.

This year from august 25th to 31st participants will get an introduction to the scientific analysis of oral-history-sources with a focus on “Resistance during National Socialism”. Lectures of several international researchers will examine the term “resistance”, look at motives for resistance acts and deal with methods of oral-history as well as provide insight into European memorial cultures. Excursions to Berlin memorial sites will help to immerse into different aspects.
This program is supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)
The program is free of charge for the participants. Freie Universitaet Berlin will cover room and board and will subsidize travel costs. Please note, the workshop language will be German.

Context-specific projects that make full use of the unique opportunities offered. The long stays at HMK lead to intensive local and international collaboration. Context-specific projects that make full use of the unique opportunities offered. The long stays at HMK lead to intensive local and international collaboration. Projects are developed both in (response to) the surroundings of Hoorn, public space and in the exhibition space. It is a biennial project conceived to address following key questions:
How do we interact within the framework of broader governmental policies concerning urban regeneration? How can we tackle the increasingly politicised policies that underpin cultural endeavours in revitalising urban centres and neighbourhoods? Do artists, curators and art managers have to default to the increasingly unfeasible regeneration practices entrenched in cultural structures because there are no alternatives given?
The project was born at a time when art workers, policy makers and cultural managers are confronted with mass funding cuts in the public sector. As the art and cultural communities face the disappearance of cultural regeneration projects, DEFAULT 13 proposes to face the uncertain future of such projects.
Particularly, the new 2013 edition is a collaborative project between European and Asian cultural institutions, focusing on the promotion of knowledge exchange concerning curatorial and artistic practices between the two continents.
DEFAULT 13 is organised by Ramdom (Lecce, Italy) in collaboration with Arthub Asia (Shanghai, China) and with the support of the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF), Arts Network Asia (ANA) and Trans Europe Halles (TEH) as part of the programme Creative Encounters: Cultural Partnerships between Asia and Europe.

A maximum of 10 projects will be selected by a special commission: unusual audacious, innovative works – evaluated for their originality, artistic quality, relevance and consistency with the space and theme, respect for the characters of “uniqueness”, “ephemeral” and “shelf life”, “low technique” – that will be invited to the Event of 29th June, where the viewers will give their preferences.
The work receiving the most votes by the viewers will receive a monetary prize of € 500.

culturia is a goal oriented artist in residence program and is set as a long term research project on artistic process. We develop a non material collection archiving texts written by artists. The program is set to entice and stimulate the writing practice through workshops, presentations and filmed interviews with invited artists, curators and other art professionals. All the material will be saved to create a knowledge base for researchers and be a starting point for development of future projects like exhibitions, publications and presentations. The concept is to keep the “non-material” which exists during the pursuit of the artists to the final material artwork. Wanted: an adventurous soul with an appetite for the unusual, an artistic temperament and an affinity for geek.
Suggested skills: Disappearing interfaces, conjuring circuits, pulling robotic rabbits out of haptic hats.
Watershed and the University of Bristol are disrupting normal residency service and inviting a magician, artist, illusionist or designer to join them for a spell of exploration into creative ideas that blend technology, interaction design, magic and illusion.
The Magician in Residence will receive research, development and production support, including a £3000 fee, up to £1000 for materials, plus travel and accommodation expenses. The two-month residency will begin on 1 Oct 2013 and culminate in a showcase event in early December.
The residency will be co-hosted by Watershed’s Pervasive Media Studio and The Bristol Interaction and Graphics Group in the Computer Science Department of the University of Bristol.

Nordic & Baltic Collaboration Residency Programme supports emerging connections and collaborations between art professionals across the Nordic and Baltic region.
HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme invites artists and curators from the Nordic and Baltic countries to develop dialogue and collaborative projects with art professionals or practitioners from other disciplines in joint residencies. The projects may be based on initial concepts that call for interdisciplinary research and co-operation, or on existing connections between practitioners who are looking for an opportunity to realise new collective work.

HIAP – Helsinki International Artist Programme invites artists and curators from the Nordic and Baltic countries to develop dialogue and collaborative projects with art professionals or practitioners from other disciplines in joint residencies. The projects may be based on initial concepts that call for interdisciplinary research and co-operation, or on existing connections between practitioners who are looking for an opportunity to realise new collective work.
The residencies will take place from October to December 2013 and during the year 2014.

The participants in the residency programme will be offered a stipendium to cover the living costs, travel budget including return travel to Helsinki, and research and production support (negotiable). HIAP offers not only space and time for concentrated research and production, but also curatorial support and mediation, as well as connection to both local and international networks for the residents. Moreover, the residents can benefit from and participate in the other discursive programme at HIAP, which carries within it a strong focus on research, collaboration and interdisciplinarity.
The programme is supported by the Nordic Council of Ministers, and encourages collaboration between artists, curators and professionals based in the following countries: Finland, Sweden, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania.

paid by host: The New Gallery is an non-profit artist-run centre and observes CARFAC (Canadian Artists' Representation) payment schedules, offering an artist fee of $1739 CAD for a solo show. Additionally, we provide limited financial resources to aid artists in managing shipping and travel costs.
Our Main Space is currently located at 212, 100 7 Ave SW in the Art Central building in downtown Calgary. The gallery contains approximately 900 sq ft of exhibition space. Main Space programming comprises exhibitions by artists, collaborators, curators, and other cultural producers from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. Journalists from the 42 counties of the Union the Mediterranean who work on cross-cultural reporting are invited to submit their works for the 7th edition of the Anna Lindh Journalist Award until the 30th of June, while the prize will be announced in London, in October 2013.
The Award, which started in 2006, focuses on intercultural issues between and within the Euro-Mediterranean societies, with a special award dedicated to certain theme every year. Modessqe Sp. z o.o. announces a call for entries for the Modessqe 1st International Painting Contest for artists from Poland and abroad who use paint as means of their artistic expression. The topic of the first edition of the Contest is “Perfectionists”. The contestants may send up to three works whose size should not exceed 200x200cm. The objective of the competition is to select a collection of awarded works which will be made available to the public at a post-competition exhibition in Warsaw organized at Skwer - a branch of the Fabryka Trzciny Art Center. The awards include the royalty fee: Grand Prix - PLN 15,000, PLN 7,000 - for the second place, PLN 5,000 - for the third place and 5 x PLN 3,000 - for Honourable Mentions and Distinctions. The winning paintings will become property of the organizers. The vernissage and official award ceremony will be held on 30th August 2013.

MMSU is announcing Call for proposals for the international interdisciplinary project about the traditions of underground economy (smuggling, contraband). The project Smuggling Anthologies / Antologie di contrabbando is conceived as a combination of exhibitions, symposiums and workshops (research) successively occurring on three (3) locations:
- At the MMSU, Rijeka, 2013, Croatia
- At the Idrija Municipal Museum in Idrija, 2014, Slovenia
- At the Trieste Contemporanea Gallery in Trieste in 2014, Italy
The Exhibition and symposium will be held in the period of Oct. 22 to Dec. 4, 2013 at the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rijeka.
We invite artists, historians, sociologists, citizens, theorists and experts to propose art-research projects in the field of visual, media arts and film, theory, history, cultural heritage, ethnography and sociology which will correspond to the topic of smuggling with a documentary-fictional and practical-theoretical approach. The project advocates interdisciplinary approach to the topic through the proposals which can be: artworks, lectures, theoretical texts, archive-documentary materials, with an accent on the interdisciplinary.

The General Fund is now closed for this year and will reopen next year on 1st March 2014. Artists and cultural operators living and working in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa and the Arabian Peninsula can apply in Arabic, English or French. Priority is given to mobility from the South and East of these regions.
