Sunprinting leads back to the origins of photography and the 19th century blueprint technique of the 'cyanotype' and the photogram.'The workshop also provides an opportunity to learn about the history of this very accessible technique that leads back to the origins of photography. All materials are provided, however it would be great if you can bring additional materials such as transparent or not transparent small objects inspired by your dream, leaves or other natural elements.

For the publication of issue #55, the digital journal InterArtive will publish a special issue dedicated to diverse aspects of the current discussion about Art & Mobility. We invite theorists, critics, curators and artists who work on the subject to participate.

Artistic practices and creativity are directly and closely linked to mobility. A great part of the art and architecture that we know would not have existed if it weren’t for the urge to travel, to discover, for the need to go beyond limits - territorial and intellectual - of the known.

To reflect on mobility today means to widen the perspective, to go beyond the concepts of travel, discovery and displacement; it calls for an analysis of the social, political, economic and cultural phenomena linked to it.

Visual Studies as Academic Discipline | Center for Visual Studies, Zagreb
•Application Deadline

The past two decades have witnessed a large increase in academic interest in all visual phenomena, including those strictly visual – from painting and film to experimental video and multimedia installations – as well as all the forms of applied arts: graphic and industrial design, fashion and advertising. In many countries, this interest in visual practice is accompanied by the interest in visual theories, primarily in the new discipline of visual studies that keep acquiring academic legitimacy at universities worldwide.

Center for Visual Studies, Zagreb; Tvrđa – Magazine for theory, culture and visual arts; Croatian Writers’ Society; Faculty of Textile Technology, University of Zagreb; Association “White Wave”, Zagreb

The Conference will take place at the Faculty of Textile Technology in Zagreb, from 7th to 9th November 2013. Details will be regularly updated on the web site

Proposed subjects:

- The theoretical and disciplinary status of visual studies – two decades after the pictorial turn
- Visual studies as a “radical” version of art history or a critical detour?
- The epistemological aspects of visual studies in university curricula
- The potentials of the applied science of images: interactions between art, film, design, fashion and performance
- "Non-disciplinarity" as an approach to the multimedia image of the world
- Fashion studies today: from the theory of fashion to the design of body

Presentations are limited to 20 minutes. In order to participate at the Conference, please send abstract of your paper (150 words) together with short CV to email: purgar[@] and zarko.paic[@] until 21st of July 2013. Home/s, media art exhibition
•Application Deadline

After the exhibition 'Neighborhood X.0' (2012) in Ankara and a series of exhibitions under the title 'PARABOLE' (running until 25/07/2013) in several cities in Bulgaria, ArtUP! is preparing the next exhibition 'Home/s' in collaboration with the Benaki Museum in Athens.

ArtUP! invites artists from Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey to submit their work for the exhibition 'Home/s' that will take place in Athens and will be curated by Daphne Dragona and Katerina Gkoutziouli.

The exhibition 'Home/s' will take place from October 11 to November 17, 2013 at the Benaki Museum (Pireos Annex) in Athens. 'Home/s' will be also presented online on the ArtUP! website.

Any artist from Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey, whose work is media based is eligible to apply.

The new ARTUP! exhibition wishes to offer possible answers to these questions and to comment on the different ways of 'feeling at home' in the networked era. It will particularly examine how a new sense of belonging has been shaped with the proliferation of networked technologies, which is enabled by our mediated presence and empowered by affect. Are these innumerous connections built among citizens from different countries in periods of insurrection and unrest the new home for the many? Are the possibilities given for borderless communication the answer for the ones that need to be on the move? Are we really home within the networks? And how can technology capture, affect or change our feeling of belonging?

The selected artists will be informed within a month after the deadline of submissions. Each artist will receive a remuneration of € 200,00.

89plus | long-term, international, multi-platform research project
•Application Deadline

89plus is a long-term, international, multi-platform research project co-founded by Simon Castets and Hans Ulrich Obrist. It is conceived as a mapping of the generation born in or after 1989. Without forecasting artistic trends or predicting future creation, 89plus manifests itself through panels, books, periodicals and exhibitions, bringing together individuals from a generation whose voices are only starting to be heard, yet which makes up almost half of the world’s population.

Marked by several paradigm-shifting events, the year 1989 saw the collapse of the Berlin Wall and the start of the post-Cold War period; the introduction of the World Wide Web and the beginning of the universal availability of the Internet, as well as the orbit of the first Global Positioning System satellite. Positing a relationship between these world-changing events and creative production at large, 89plus introduces the work of some of this generation’s most inspiring protagonists.

89plus announces an open call for artists, writers, architects, filmmakers, musicians, designers, scientists and technologists. There is only one rule: you must be 89plus – born in or after 1989. The open call is hosted at

Submissions are kept on a private research database for consideration by the project’s co-curators. As the project continues in the years to come, those selected will be notified of their inclusion in new endeavours.

Submissions are welcome at any time, however the mid-year deadline for 2013 activities is July 30, 2013. is kindly supported by DLD – Digital, Life, Design.

89plus is partnering with DIS Magazine for a special 89plus edition of DIS Crit, which will be announced shortly.

The prefix ‘trans’ means to go beyond, get across, cross, exchange, change and convert.
The Residence Support Program provides a time and place for artists to experience new encounters and carry out experiments to guide their future projects. Participating artists are expected to bring new ideas to the local culture and people while they, in turn, will hopefully acquire new perspectives through these fresh encounters. As a result of the residence program, the artists will convey their new experiences, gathered from the local lifestyle and our particular geographic situation, to their next destination. We hope that the residence program at Akiyoshidai International Art Village becomes a space for artists to go beyond cultural borders and expand their outlooks, exchange their unique understandings and establish relationships with fellow artists.

VIDA the Art and Artificial Life International Awards begun in 1999 by Fundación Telefónica, it was created with the mission of supporting creative endeavors in this singular field by rewarding the pioneering efforts of artists. At a time when the concept of life finds itself once again in uncharted territory, a wide range of artistic initiatives attempt to illustrate and explore this phenomenon, examining its impact on our collective consciousness and how it affects the cultural, technological and social mindset. Over the past decade, VIDA has welcomed a variety of interdisciplinary projects that respond to this situation and brought them together in a single forum. Using formal strategies that push the boundaries between existing practices, these projects offer new perspectives that force us to reconsider our pre-existing notions of life and artificial life.

transmediale 2014 - Call for Works - afterglow
•Application Deadline

With the theme afterglow, transmediale 2014 suggests that in a world
where resources (human, bodily, material, environmental, economic ...)
are more and more used up, the digital does not any longer stand up to
its promise of antiseptic high-tech worlds and opportunities for all. On
the contrary, digital culture is more and more becoming a
post-apocalyptic wasteland ruled by a few powerful clan leaders. Still,
digital culture is full of things that shine and glow, both promising
and uncanny: from social media to big data. On the one hand, this
afterglow can be seen as an extreme expression of the wasteful state of
digital culture (excess, overload, endless repetition, pre-emption of
meaning, exploitation), but on the other hand, as “one man’s trash is
another man’s treasure”, this afterglow is also providing the transition
to new forms of being...

The digital revolution is over again and this time “YOU” lost.
In the wastelands of its aftermath, what is still burning?

transmediale 2014 afterglow will take place from 28 January to 2
February at the Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin. The programme will
feature a diversity of different types of work in a thematic exhibition
as well as film and video screening, workshop, performance, and
conference programmes. transmediale is always interested in works
exploring our complex relation to technology, be it through new or old
media. The exhibition programme is particularly oriented towards
artworks that explore ambiguous relationships to technologies and their
associated cultural paradigms, proposing both speculative and inventive

Applicants are asked to critically reflect on phenomena in the extended context of art, science and technology leading to a materialisation in terms of a project.

For the application procedure a proposal sketching out a general idea including an interdisciplinary approach is required.

Through common processes of work and development the participants will be included in the discourse and conception of the postgraduate programme allowing them to play an active role, regarding the specific curricular content supporting their projects.
