The Fine Art programme is based on an understanding of contemporary art as embedded within a larger field of cultural, social and political practices. It encourages critical discourse on artistic practice, and places an emphasis on self-reflection and analysis. Furthermore, public interaction is given a special focus, inciting students to connect with practitioners outside of the academy and present their work to general audiences.

The Self-directed Creative Residency program in Visual Arts provides time and space for individuals and groups to create new works, research innovative ideas, and experiment with different techniques and modes of production.
Residency length can vary within the prescribed program dates. All residencies must begin on a Monday and last for a minimum of five days.

WARP Call for Applications

During one week (October 1 - 5) a group of about 80 artists, poets, musicians and art critics will be given the chance to literally occupy the city's market square in an improvised Artist Village, a nomadic camp with mobile homes, caravans and tents. The artists' village during the exhibition Coup de Ville is an offshoot of the annual portfolio days and the (post-) summer school. WARP organises these encounters with professionals from over the entire world: curators, art critics and established artists from New York to Beijing and from Toronto to Cape Town.

in December 2001 aiming at the place of new creation where nature and art live together.
At this institution, twice a year -- spring and autumn, we have an 'Artist-in-Residence'
(AIR) program system that invites artists to reside in Aomori, and produce works.
We aim at offering the opportunity of various appreciation of art, the exchange
activities with artists and citizen, and making the original art culture of Aomori-City.
