Wooloo-NEW LIFE RESIDENCY
•Application Deadline

15.08.2010

NEW LIFE RESIDENCY is the world's first non-visual residency program for artists. The residency is organized as part of Manifesta 8, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art, and will take place this fall in the Region of Murcia, Spain.

For one week each, five artists will be selected to live and work in a dark, visually distorted exhibition space. To support them in their life and work for the week, the artist will collaborate with a local Murcian assistant who is blind.

In cooperation with her/his assistant, the artist will use the one-week residency to create a guided tour of the non-visual space and experience in which s/he is living. The guided tour will take place on the last day of the residency and will be open to the biennial audience. The blind assistant will be the guide of this work in darkness.

All applicants must apply with their precise concept for this guided tour. A tour of a social sculpture, so to speak.

Platform residency 2011
•Application Deadline

31.08.2010

Platform announces an open call for an artist residency in Vaasa, Finland.
2-3 international and 2-3 Baltic or Nordic artists will be accepted for
the period starting February 2011 till the end of February 2012.

Annually 5-6 artists are invited, about 2 months, to realize a project.
The residency offers accommodation, a studio, covered travel expenses, a
monthly grant as well as a production budget.

Platform encourages art projects that take a self-directed orientation to
the theme TO HAVE / TO OWN.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE
An application consisting of a motivation letter/project proposal,
documentation of 5 projects and a CV, all included in one document, to be
sent electronically to info@platform.fi during August, but no later than
31.8.2010.

The main focus of Platform has been to present and produce contemporary art in Vaasa with emphasis on site specific art, community art, or art projects that have some local connection. Since an important part of Platform's activities are creating local interaction it gradually made sense to emphasize the residency program. It turned out that the projects and exhibitions made on site by artists who stayed a longer period in Vaasa seemed to work better – in the sense that they got more local attention and usually also were more interesting to us.
