The town and the surrounding area are well known for their spas and best mineral waters of Europe. You may try eight types. The resort is surrounded by a curtain of coniferous forests which makes a gorgeous landscape and protects it from heat in the summer and cold winds in the winter. The residency is in a beautiful house from the central area of the upper town. The town is located at the base of Carpathians. Upper town it is at 2 kilometers from the town's square, at an altitude of 950m.

ARTISTIC FIELDS It is going to be organized with young artists, under 35 years, from all over the world by Artfest Association, a Romanian non-profit art organization. FACILITIES There are single and double rooms with bathrooms, TV etc. And around it there are two large parks and beautiful old buildings even they aren't now inhabited. You can easily find restaurants to eat (4-6 Euros) and stores to buy food and affordable prices. You can cook also in a full equipped kitchen, at the residency.

COSTS 95 Euros/week, payable after arrival. That includes: accommodation, dinner, car transfer at arrival from Borsec bus station or Toplita train station, guidance to visit the area, hiking on Carpathian mountains, visit of area's attractions ( caves, the Fairytales Place, mineral water spas, mineral water museum etc)

The Keyholder Residency Program, Lower East Side Printshop, NYC

The Keyholder Residency Program offers emerging artists free 24-hour access to printmaking facilities to develop new work and foster their artistic careers. Residencies are one year long, starting on April 1, 2011, and take place in the Printshop’s shared Artists’ Studio. Facilities are available for intaglio, relief, monoprint, waterbased silkscreen, digital processes, and other techniques that employ the tools at hand.

Keyholders work independently, in a productive atmosphere alongside other contemporary artists. Artists from all disciplines are eligible to apply; printmaking skills are not required, but some familiarity with the medium is recommended. Basic instruction in printmaking is provided for new Keyholders. Technical assistance is not included in the program, but is available at additional cost.

Participation is limited and competitive. Applications are evaluated by a committee of artists, curators, critics, and art professionals based on the quality of submitted artwork. Artists currently without a studio space are encouraged to apply.

Keyholder Residency includes:

Ashkal Alwan: Call for Applications - Home Workspace Program–Beirut

Ashkal Alwan is pleased to launch its first Open Call for Applications for the 2011-2012 Home Workspace Program with Resident Artist/Professor Emily Jacir.

Geared towards developing an interdisciplinary approach to arts education, the Home Workspace Program targets emerging artists and cultural practitioners who want to develop their skills and practice in a critically supportive environment in Beirut.
The Home Workspace Program is an 11-month, independent, post-academic program with 10-15 participants per year from Lebanon and around the world. The curriculum consists of workshops and seminars with the Resident Artist/Professor and invited guests.

Conceived as part-incubator, part-production space, the Program provides a framework for research and production for participants, with space and resources in a facility that includes studios, audiovisual editing suites, performance and exhibition spaces, and a multimedia library.

Participants are expected to reside in Beirut for 11 months, to participate actively in the various activities initiated by the Resident and Visiting Artists/ Professors, and to develop and produce a project. Each participant is moreover provided with a production stipend.

ELIGIBILITY
• Artists working in any visual arts medium, including video, film, performance, sound, installation, photography, painting and sculpture
• Cultural practitioners including writers, curators, thinkers, critics and academics
• Applicants who have completed undergraduate or graduate arts, arts-related or cultural studies, formal academic training or have equivalent experience
• Applications from Lebanon, the Arab region and the world are all welcome; Ashkal Alwan will make visa arrangements when necessary for selected applicants
• Applicants should have a working knowledge of Arabic and/or English in order to follow the program

17. Dexter Sinister: From the Toolbox of a Serving Library with Stuart Bailey and David Reinfurt
Program dates: July 4 – August 12, 2011

As well as designing, editing, producing, and distributing both printed and digital media, Dexter Sinister (David Reinfurt & Stuart Bailey) has also worked with ambiguous roles and formats, usually in the live contexts of galleries and museums. These projects generally play to some form of site-specificity, where a publication or series of events are worked out in public over a set period of time. Dexter Sinister intend to slowly dissolve all such activities into one single institution, The Serving Library.

Wysing Arts Centre Citizen power Peterborough, UK

Citizen Power Peterborough was set up in 2010 to explore the link between place and identity and develop new ways for people to influence and participate in civic life. It is a new breed of innovative cross-organisational partnership and is jointly funded by Peterborough City Council, Arts Council England East (ACEE) and the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce (RSA).
Six strands of projects comprise Citizen Power Peterborough, providing opportunities for citizens to build attachment to their surroundings forming the basis for a more sustainable future.
The Arts and Social Change strand is exploring the role of arts and imagination in building a renewed sense of belonging in Peterborough, leading to stronger levels of civic activism in the future. Creative and arts based approaches underpin engagement for the entire programme of Citizen Power through a wide range of programmes that place artists at the centre of re-imagining social change within communities.

Artists’ Residencies: Context Matters
Two artists’ residencies, entitled Context Matters, are being planned to run for one year from spring 2011 (anticipated from May). The two residencies will run concurrently and it is planned that both will work closely with self-organised community and voluntary groups in order to make creative responses to the groups and their work. One residency is aimed at an artist – working in any art form – with substantial experience of working within socially engaged and participatory settings, the second is aimed at an artist – again working in any media – with less experience but with a strong commitment to socially engaged and participatory practice. This second artist will receive ongoing mentoring from the first.

Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education and Residency Unlimited (RU) are joining efforts to create a new community-based residency program at Casita Maria’s state of the art facility in the South Bronx, NY.

We are looking to work with artists for whom audience participation plays a major role in their practice and who will work alongside Bronx-based youth and their families as they develop new work.

What does this residency provide?

A two-fold experience with 2 vibrant organizations putting their resources together to present and disseminate the creative product to a broad range of audiences.

A studio space for 3 months starting May 1st at Casita Maria free of charge.

What are the criteria for selection?

Besides quality of the artist’s work, the core criterion is the artist’s willingness to work with the communities of which Casita Maria is a part.

The studio space at Casita Maria will typically be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm each week day. In addition, occasional weekends and evenings will be made available.

Eligible applicants must be able to commit to spending 25 hours of time @ Casita Maria per month, with the purpose of executing a selected project.

The Fountainhead Arts Fellowship is a joint project of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts, the Department of Painting & Printmaking, the Department of Sculpture + Extended Media, the Department of Craft/Material Studies and Fountainhead Development Services. The residency is sited in a newly renovated complex built to eco-friendly, EarthCraft standards. This mixed-use community includes artists' studios, apartments, a café, an outdoor swimming pool, a dog park and other amenities in addition to being near campus.

Residency period: mid-August 2011 through mid-May 2012.

Eligibility:

ONLY Spring 2011 graduating MFA painter/printmakers and sculptors are invited to apply for the fellowship year beginning August 2011.
If you graduated prior to 2011, you are NOT eligible to apply.
VCU students and graduates are NOT eligible to apply.

Fellows receive:

• 24-hour access to a private approximately 400 square foot studio
• Furnished double-occupancy apartment. (2-bedroom apartment shared with a fellow from another discipline)

Call for residency applications: Atlantic Center for the Arts

Each residency session includes three master artists of different disciplines. The master artists each personally select a group of associates - talented, emerging and midcareer artists - through an application process administered by ACA. During the residency, artists participate in informal sessions with their group, collaborate on projects, and work independently. The relaxed atmosphere and unstructured program provide considerable time for artistic regeneration and creation. Atlantic Center for the Arts provides housing (private room/bath with work desk), weekday meals (provided by ACA chef) and 24-hour access to shared studio space. Financial Aid is available to qualified applicants.

We are calling for applications for 2 one month ComPeung AiR artist grants for 2011. The 2 residencies are scheduled for September/October 2011.

Each of the 2 grants cover:
