Thematic Residencies / 19 Adam Chodzko: Something in the Water. A Search for the Turn of the Backwash
•Application Deadline
15.07.2011
Where’s the art work? The residency and its location is the work. The group is the work. The differences between the group is the work. But the group is looking somewhere else altogether. And that somewhere else — certainly, not here — must be where art is really about to happen.
Based on research and experimentation through play, improvisation, and the use of chance, this residency will explore the methodologies of ethnographic film maker Jean Rouch, that looking catalyses a particular reality. And, Grotowski’s notion that actors co-create the event of theatre with its spectators might provide some guidance.
It's a collaboration. Field trips, hikes, meetings with "real" people, collaborative video projects, individual quests, a lot of "show and tell," too much late night Googling, and lots of misunderstandings will steer us through this residency.

PILOTENKUECHE: Call for Residents
•Application Deadline
16.07.2011
Pilotenkueche is an Artist Residency Program based on group dynamic. Six-to-eight artists each work on their individual projects during a three-and-a-half month period at the Spinnerei in Leipzig. Each has their own working area within the 312 m2 (1,023 ft2) communal studio. Every Round of the residency ends as a group exhibition during one of the three gallery weekends at the Spinnerei.
Our philosophy is focused on an interest of exchange and kinetic dialogue about art ideas, approaches and methods practiced in other places and from other individuals. We are fascinated with how they come into practice in our space. How the artist uses their time and space and opportunities during their time with us their choice. The communal working is open and accessible 24-hours a day.
We encourage the participants to work and be present on site as much as possible during the duration of the residency. When committing to this project, the artist must agree to stay the duration of the term.
Pilotenkueche wishes to provide our participants with the experience of accomplishing something as a group; and, moreover, in experimenting with new forms of cooperation.
Accommodation and travel costs are not provided, but we can help you finding a room and organizing your stay in Leipzig. Although PILOTENKUECHE is a non-profit project, there is a participation fee of 900 Euros to be paid by each artist to cover the costs of the studio space and advertising the round of the residency.
The application deadline for the upcoming October - January term is July 16, 2011, and we have a rolling application acceptance for the rounds to follow. Applications should contain a CV, photos and a short text about your work and work intentions for the project term, as well as to state in which term you wish to participate. Participants will be chosen by a jury and informed within two weeks.
