Emily Hunt’s new body of work focuses on German medieval history and
the grotesque. The title of the exhibition, The Master of New Holland
is a reference to both the historic name for Australia and the
practice of 15th century German woodcut masters. The artist has
created new hybrid compositions by combining both old and contemporary
ideas of the vernacular and the grotesque.

first solo exhibition of London-based painter E.M.C. Collard.

The opening of the exhibition will coincide with openings at "Kunstraum Richard Sorge" and "91mQ" located in the same building.

The title, 20:1, refers to the scale shift in the paintings that
form the main part of the exhibition. Here, densely layered images
give rise to a unique collage technique dictated partially by
chance. In the diptych Zahnderzeitpasta Delta Second (2007), for
instance, a kitsch postcard image of a sunrise seems to have been
sat on top of graph paper, while paper dots from a hole-puncher
– each enlarged to the approximate size of a fist – form an
integral part of these narratives-as-image, which only someone with
a pronounced poetic sensibility could pull off...

Philip Topolovac setzt in der Ausstellung bei Kwadrat seine Strategie der
Erhebung des technischen Gegenstandes zur kunstwürdigen Skulptur fort. Er
zeigt Lichtmaschinen. Zehn unprätentiöse Fotografien dieser Gebilde im
Format 30x30 cm. Wenn man sie sieht, denkt man unwillkürlich an Schönheit
und im zweiten Atemzug an das Manifest der Futuristen. Doch hoppla, da war
doch das Schöne der Geschwindigkeit, der ästhetischen technischen Hülle
gemeint. Topolovac zeigt uns nun die herausgerissenen Eingeweide. Eine
anatomische Studie. Verrückte skulpturale Qualitäten.

Joy is Fat is an exhibition project by the interdisciplinary research group preventive self, that has been collaborating for two years with scientists from various disciplines, such as ethnology, medicine and psychology, as well as artists concerning the theme of obesity/ cardiovascular illnesses, in relation to the preventive self – foresighted, problem focussed and self dependent way of life.
The specific projects deal with the question of to what degree representations of the human body has changed during the past 100 years in light of the significant accumulation of date in the human sciences.

The Destiny Machine is a reference to the staging and presentation of Modern Art in the 20th century, above all of the Surrealists by Friedrich Kiesler (1890-1965). Coming from the theatre, Kiesler formally created a stage for pictures. On the basis of ingenious fixture systems and specially designed mechanisms which allowed pictures to rotate, he developed among other things a kind of kinetic picture machine in Art of the Century (Peggy Guggenheim Gallery, New York 1942).

A group exhibition, composed by 10 indipendently conceived solo
shows, represents the exhibitional completion of a series of
interviews held by artistic director Milovan Farronato, which have
generated much interest. From April until June, at DOCVA venue at
Fabbrica del Vapore, took place five curator talks, involving ten
curators in all: Elena Bordignon and Marco Tagliafierro, Vincenzo De
Bellis and Davide Ferri, Paola Noè and Francesco Garutti, Michela
Arfiero and Simone Menegoi, Roberta Tenconi and Antonio Grulli.
Each curator will now present a single work, in an attempt to
formalize the complexity of his own specific curatorial research, as
a further contribution to the debate upon a possibile map of some
Italian curatorial research paths, and more specifically based in
Milan.

Paradises can only be imagined. They remain unattainable spaces of longing – even if commerce attempts to lure us into its wonderlands of shopping, holidays and wellness. In the exhibition “Paradise is elsewhere” at the ifa gallery Berlin, artists from the Asia-Pacific region question the concepts of paradises that are inspired by, and reveal, our perpetual yearning for the Garden of Eden.

Verzerrte Gesichter ohne kenntliche Physiognomie, Münder, Augen und
Wangen aus Schichten, Flächen und Strichen warmer, gesättigter
Farben seit Jahren malt der syrische, in Berlin lebende Künstler
Marwan Köpfe als flimmernde Landschaften. Hitze, Wind und
Luftspiegelungen scheinen darüber gegangen. Seine sinnlichen
Porträts zeugen von innerer Verletzlichkeit, Trauer und Erinnerung,
aber auch Selbstbewusstsein und Milde.

Die Ausstellung "Übergangsgesellschaft. Porträts und Szenen 1980-1990" zeigt Fotoarbeiten, die in den 80er Jahren in der DDR entstanden sind. Es sind Fotografien zu sehen, die poetisch und zugleich sezierend genau die Befindlichkeiten der Menschen in jenen Jahren darstellen: unpathetische Bilder eines Epochenumbruchs.
