"Memories, dreams and desires are expressed in the seemingly archaic works of Susanne Ring. Under the title VERHOLZEN (LIGNIFICATION), she combines her figures and images into a large wall ensemble. The title refers to a paradox: the process of lignification involves the death of cells and their transmutation into a resistant but dead material. This transformation is fundamental for growth and ensures ultimate survival.
Painter Christiane Ensslen lives and works in Weimar and has been invited by Galerie Axel Obiger as a guest artist. Her title “From Another World” refers to her childhood experiences in the DDR (former East Germany), which stand in stark contrast to the reality of her life today. She captures this tension in colourful oil paintings, in which precisely construed forms alternate with free-floating painterly compositions."

and big, and various landscapes. The exhibition American Beauty shows
works capturing memories and impressions of a 6 week journey to the US,
visiting Washington, D.C., New York and San Francisco. The paintings
reflect an intensive observation and examination of everyday life in
America, and recollect the dramatic light in all scenes - a consequence
of the geographic areas. Noticeable in this new body of works, is the
use of color -- a much brighter palette, as well as a sense of
airiness, let the paintings appear less morbid and less cumbersome."

The screening room will be showing Achivo video_dumbo curated by Caspar Stracke & Gabriela Monroy, presenting over 35 video works from international video artists. Canadian artist Daniel Wilson will build an interactive media installation. Darri Lorenzen from Iceland is creating a custom installation and there will be a motion sensitive drawing machine by Patrick Timm from Germany..."

J.Jackie Baier presents us with a deeply personal and unglamorized view of Berlin's sexual underground, moving through clubs, brothels, bars and streets. Baier, who moved to Berlin in 1993 and officially became a woman in 1997, documents in a wholly unvoyeuristic way the lives of transsexual prostitutes, drag queens and other "misfits".

While Ahalouch's earlier works centred primarily on the theme of family, she has recently turned to more universal and rather politically oriented content. She often creates series of pictures in which she merges different stories and so conjures completely new images, her works aiming to visualise the contradictions and structures of dependency that lie behind all our social interaction."
On the opening evening, at ca. 8 pm, Ahalouch el Keriasti will present "A Small Show in the Greatest Show in the World", a performance with Dolly Duster as Marlene Dietrich, a burlesque dancer and circus artists.

A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
