Die Analyse von Konfliktsituationen – speziell in inwanderungsgesellschaften – hängt immer auch von der Bedingtheit des eigenen Denkens ab. Dies gilt umso stärker in interkulturellen Zusammenhängen und lässt sich exemplarisch an der Auseinandersetzung mit so genannten muslimischen Lebenswelten beobachten. Ausgehend von Defiziten in der Analyse gesellschaftlicher Konfliktsituationen, die u. a. aus dem 'verstellten Blick' der Forschenden resultieren, diskutieren Experten aus Literatur- und Kulturforschung, Ethnologie/Pädagogik, Politik- und Islamwissenschaft theoretische Aspekte, die zu einer verkürzten Wahrnehmung führen.

"Read metaphorically, “drizzle” could refer to a condition in which our perceptions are fragmentary at best, interfering with our ability to definitively categorize common, everyday perceptions. Our view of the familiar is obstructed, muddled, undermined, engulfed by unfamiliar experiences. Between unmediated experience, emotional entanglement and unexpected memories, new associative narratives emerge. Something is shifted, brought to light in a different way and thereby enriched with projections and fantasies. A sphere is opened up in which reality and fiction—consciously or unconsciously—are mysteriously interwoven."

Art Laboratory Berlin produzierte in Zusammenarbeit mit dem Kuratorenteam SHORT HOUSE aus Los Angeles die Gruppenausstellung OFF FENCE. Die künstlerische Plattform OFF FENCE setzt sich mit dem kulturellen Overflow auseinander, beleuchtet Überschneidungen und Spannungen in der Grenzregion zwischen Südkalifornien und Nordwest-Mexiko. Michelle Chong und Luis G. Hernandez Arbeiten untersuchen die ethnische Identität aus einer linguistischen Perspektive. Die Arbeiten von Ed Gomez und Camilo Ontiveros setzen sich mit den politischen und ökonomischen Auswirkungen des kulturellen Bruchs bzw. der kulturellen Trennung auseinander. Die Arbeiten von Katya Gardea Browne, einer Künstlerin aus Mexiko-Stadt, setzen sich mit physischen und geographischen Strukturen der Grenzregion auseinander.

The third exhibition at MMX will run from May 1-May 28 and will be ever changing and evolving throughout the duration of the show.
The third show at MMX expands out of the ground floor rooms and into the garden and back courtyard. Tobias Sternberg from Sweden is bringing back the dead with his life size sculptures of extinct animals. The garden at MMX will be transforming over the next months with the work of Mr. Sternberg’s interactive piece Schadensorge and also by Canadian Cedric Bomford. Bomford will be building one of his fantastical constructions that will snake across the front of the garden.
Inside, Veronika Schumacher continues to push the boundaries of what she started in Show II, her decadent and bipolar wallpaper will engulf the entire room this time. David Krepfle’s sculptures are dually humorous and mischievous as their visual color play bounces around the room. Screening program III is curated by the MMX directors.

FEINKOST is pleased to present its second solo exhibition of Berlin-based artist Ignacio Uriarte. Entitled “Typologies”, the exhibition is a meditation on parameters, taxonomies and predestinations available within materials.

“Typologies” presents a continuation of Ignacio Uriarte’s research and his use of the office place as a total medium. Complete with all its textures, materials, behaviors and structures the artist filters the data of the workstation through an aesthetic language of art history referencing moments such as minimalism, conceptual art, hard-edge abstraction, and land art. Using this bi-lingual approach Uriarte analogizes actions and processes legible to anyone who has worked in a cubicle or walked through the galleries of MoMA.

"The initial exhibition at Daimler Contemporary in 2010 will show major
1960s trends in German abstract art from the Daimler Art Collection:
Constructivism, Zero, Minimal Art, Concept and Seriality. Starting
with 1950s predecessors – such as Josef Albers, Norbert Kricke and
Siegfried Cremer – the show considers abstract art developments in
the cities of Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Krefeld, Stuttgart, Berlin and
Munich, but also looks at contiguous Swiss positions. About 60 works
by 28 artists are being presented, all developing a specifically
German Minimalism in the period from 1954 to 1974 in various media
(sculpture, painting, film and drawing)."

Für ihre Ausstellung bei SOX nimmt Miriam Böhm den “White Cube” des Ausstellungsfensters zum Motiv. Steht die Bezeichnung des „weißen Würfels“ sonst für weitgehend neutrale, unauffällige Ausstellungsräume, deren Architektur sich den Exponaten möglichst unterordnet, so ist dieses Verhältnis im Schaufenster an der Oranienstrasse grundlegend verschieden: Das Fenster fungiert nicht nur als Ausstellungsfläche, sondern macht eben den Akt des Ausstellens zum Thema – es wird, wie Mel Bochner im Zusammenhang mit seinem Film „New York Windows“ (1966) sagte, zur „Metapher für Selbstreflexivität“. Eine selbstreflexive Haltung prägt auch die Arbeiten von Miriam Böhm.

After the success of the March Open Studios at GlogauAIR, he now shows to the public the latest progression of his practice. Through keeping records of his daily life and subjecting the accumulated detritus to a process of sublimation, Ollé subtly penetrates deep into individual intimacy. The work is introspective, yet powerfully symbolic; a constant failed attempt to describe everything that has an effect on him during his time in Berlin and his residence at GlogauAIR.

Thinking and acting ecologically, environmentally friendly planning, and energy-efficient forms of construction – these are the new standards for a society that is faced with the effects of climate change and the foreseeable end of fossil fuels. Architects and urban planners seek to meet this challenge, and as the majority of the world’s inhabitants already live in cities, urban areas have become the main setting for their endeavours. In cooperation with ARCH+, Zeitschrift für Kultur und Städtebau, the ifa galleries present innovative projects in Asia, Africa, and the Americas.

They paint, draw, sew, perform, play music and work with wood. The nine artists behind the exhibition House in my Head have chosen different materials and a different approach to their working processes than artists of the previous generation. They represent a tendency which deals with the personal narrative, the private sphere, the handmade, and the influence of signature; a tendency which left its mark on art of the 00's.

From now on new work of Roland Fuhrmann can be visited, which is permanently installed in the entrance hall of the main building of the Brandenburgian Technical University of Cottbus (art-and-construction). It is open week-daily and around the clock (night doormen).

"UNIVERSITAS - Light-Orbiter
diameter 2,20 m (7,35 ft), 40 solar cells, created 2007, realized 2009
A blue ring turns slowly in space. With changing beam of light flares its iridescent surface from silicon crystals. The light-weight construction embodies pure function and associates airship structures and outer space habitats. Noiseless weightlessness dominate the scope. The light orbiter decelerate the speed of light into a contemplative orbit and transfers it as positive load to the viewer."
