The Arts and the City seit 2009
Die Konferenz setzt die Reihe „The Arts and the City“ fort welche seit 2009 in Kooperation mit der Heinrich Böll Stiftung durchgeführt wird. Das internationale Symposium "The Arts and the City I : Typologien innovativer Kunstzentren Europas. Wege zu einer Berliner Kunsthalle" fand im Sommer 2009 statt. Im Jahre 2010 wurde die internationale Konferenz „The Arts and the City II : Kunst macht Quartier. Zwischen Aufwertung und Empowerment“ durchgeführt. Im selben Jahr wurden zwei öffentliche Open-Space-Workshops unter dem Titel „Welchen Raum braucht die Kunst?“ realisiert. The 6th laboratory of the Migrating Art Academies (MigAA) project continues with its shaping format – a synthesis of mobility, art and sciences. The CouchSurfing laboratory aims to bring together more than 10 European art universities and other cultural organisations to set rules for a cooperation model which will offer emerging artists professional knowledge and feasible mobility.

The two day CouchSurfing seminar will focus on future collaboration among cultural organisations. Around 40 participants will discuss current problematics in art education and inter-disciplinary creative practice. Ideas that emerge from CouchSurfing should become a collaborative model for MigAA partner organisations while discussions on recent crises in art education will ou

< WORDS WORK > (Worte sind wirklich - in meinem Kopf...)

"Art has always been the site of social and political power struggles. It has the capacity to defi ne or question existing power structures through representation. This can in turn influence how we as individuals are positioned, and position ourselves, in society. Simultaneously, social hierarchies within the art world defi ne whose voices are heard and whose are silenced. Although and sometimes precisely because artists of Color have very limited access to established cultural institutions, art can function
as a means of protest and resistance. With their work, artists of Color can produce new, self-defined images, beyond White cultural ascriptions, and give these often marginalized perspectives greater visibility in society." (sandrine micosse)

Ends 02.09.2015

You're invited to follow the amazing global art initiative 'FRAGILE - global performance chain journey' in which more than 750 artists from 62 countries are participating.
Can one fragile object, in times of email, chat and mobility, pass one time all around the world safely – from hand to hand, charging itself with stories and people? Will it be the same when it returns?

For the project, more than 750 artists from all over the world work together in one same action: all will carry one fragile object step by step around the planet.
The journey of the object and the works the artists will conceive during the project will be communicated on the website and in regular newsletters.
