The Institute of Cultural Diplomacy and berlinerpool are delighted to invite you to the one day intensive workshop on funding opportunities for arts from the private sector.
The workshop is intended to act as a bridge between Arts and Business, with Berlin’s animated and highly developed profile as a background. While the governmental and the EU’s main sources of funding and sponsorships for arts tend to be well known by the artists and the cultural project managers, the private sector is still considerate to be an unpredictable and capricious contemporary mecena for arts.
Throughout a range of lectures, panel discussions and practical workshops held by artists and professionals dealing directly with private sector social responsibility issues and budget, we aim to fill an informational gap that concerns the contemporary art and cultural scene of Berlin.

Die Galerie Expo 3000 existierte von 1999 bis 2002 in Berlin-Friedrichshain. In den folgenden Jahren stellte sie an verschiedenen Orten im In-und Ausland aus, u.a. in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Johannesburg und Kapstadt, Prag und München. Prinzip der Galerie war es, und damit war sie Vorreiter für viele spätere Projektgalerien, auf unkommerzieller Basis zu arbeiten und möglichst vielen Künstlern aus dem In- und Ausland eine Plattform zu geben. Die Ausstellungen wurden wöchentlichen gewechselt, wichtig war der kommunikative Rahmen einer Vernissage.
In der Ausstellung im Pavillon am Milchhof werden zehn Jahre nach Schließung der Ladengalerie die internationalen Vernetzungen der Galerie Expo 3000 durch die tschechischen Künstlerinnen und den französischen Künstler Matthieu Husser aufgezeigt. Husser war der erste Künstler, den die Galerie stellte. Das hohe Tempo der ständig wechselnden Ausstellungen wird wieder aufgenommen, um den Künstlern wie den Besuchern einen Ort der Kommunikation zu bieten.

Prosthesis 9t is part of an ongoing body of work titled Spacial Prosthetics, which seek to create a physical as well as symbolic extension of architectural spaces. For his installation in die raum Mario Asef has “expropriated” insulation boards from a local building site. The polystyrene slabs are then used to construct improvised seating, which transforms the exhibition space into a 24 hour social meeting point. Removing the facade completely the installation underlines the ambiguous position of the space as something in between the public and the private.
Prosthesis 9t represents an organic cycle of shifts in function and symbolic value, which goes beyond die raum in time and space. The polystyrene slabs - originally intended for a fixed position as insulation of a house – will deteriorate during the exhibition period, and continue the cycle “reinserted” into public space after the end of the show.

How can we then challenge ourselves to re-imagine fairer relationships to institutions, organizations, networks and economies involved in the production and consumption of art and culture? In addressing these concerns as a group, we will develop themes that will form the bases of ArtLeaks’ upcoming publication, a journal which will be entirely dedicated to censorship, cultural workers’ rights and formulating strategies and goals of organizing cultural workers.

Ungewöhnlich auch darum, weil hier nicht, wie in vielen anderen Dörfern, ansässige Künstler ihre Ateliers öffnen, nein, hier ist es der “normale” Dorfbewohner, der Haus und Hof zur Verfügung stellt um zeitgenössische Kunst an wunderbaren Orten zu präsentieren – ein Dorf wird Galerie.

Internationale Großveranstaltungen wie Manifesta, Dokumenta oder auch die Berlin Biennale nehmen eine prominente Rolle in der Bestimmung dessen ein, was heute als zeitgenössische Kunst im globalen Betriebssystem zirkuliert.
Das Phänomen der „Biennalisierung”, also die Ausbreitung der Veranstaltungsform Biennale in zahlreichen Metropolen von Yokohama bis Sevilla legt eine generalisierende Perspektive im Zusammenhang mit Globalisierung und (Kultur-)Politik nahe. In ihren lokalen Bedingungen sind die zur Frage stehenden Veranstaltungen jedoch höchst unterschiedlich. So lassen sich neben der vereinheitlichenden Kritik ebenso auch heterogene und kontext-spezifische Argumentationen finden, die die internationale Biennalen-Rezeption der vergangenen Jahre geprägt haben.
Ort: erster Teil im Udk Hauptgebäude, Hardenbergstrasse 33, Raum 9 (Erdgeschoss, beim Asta).

In der kommenden Ausstellung der Galerie Axel Obiger mit dem Titel "REthinking Material" geht es den beiden Künstlern um das Ausloten von Materialeigenschaften als Grundlage künstlerischer Arbeit an sich.
Gabriele Künnes Rauminstallation besteht aus mehreren hinter einander gesetzten Holzgestellen auf unterschiedlichen Ebenen, deren Form an gewöhnliche Arbeitsböcke erinnern. Verbunden sind diese untereinander mit mehreren verschraubten Acrylglasplatten, die zuvor mit eingefärbtem Epoxidharz unter Verwendung von Pigmenten (in Pariser Blau) behandelt wurden.
Bei Sebastian Russek spielen die Materialien Tusche und Papier die entscheidende Rolle. Seine an Kaligraphien angelehnten Malereien, umrahmen die Rauminstallation Gabriele Künnes und setzen sie durch die Thematisierung der Dimension Zeit in ein weiteres Spannungsfeld.

Bingyi, the artist, rolls out bespoke rice paper to surround a small village house on the Fuchun River in the southeast of China. She pours ink and water into the air, waiting for them to fall and merge into the paper. Through this scroll in land-art scale, the artist's hand retreats so as to let the magic hand of nature paint. This could be the synthesis moment of Trinitas of the three great themes of Chinese philosophy - heaven, human and earth - meeting and becoming one.
Is wind tangible? Are spirits visible? This 160m long action painting with ink on rice paper will be presented to shine in the light inside the St. Johannes-Evangelist Church located on the Art Mile in Berlin-Mitte.
Bingyi is an artist based in Beijing and New York.

Es sind Lebenserfahrungen, Emotionen und Stimmungen, die in diesem Jahr die vier KünstlerInnen der Sommerausstellung Imaginarium in einer ganz besonderen Atmosphäre vereinen.
Erika Matsunami aus Japan entwirft mit ihrem Projekt "B.O.D.Y.(2000-2010)" ein audiovisuelles Konzept zum Thema Körper, in dem sie es schafft gleichzeitig extremste Nähe und Distanz zu verbinden. Um das Zentrum allen Ursprungs aus anderer Sicht geht es dagegen der deutschen Künstlerin Bettina Lüdicke, die mit ihren Wandobjekten jede Körperlichkeit hinter sich lässt, um der Imagination freien Raum zu geben.
Konkreter wird es wieder in der Arbeit von Eliana Heredia, die Himmel und Hölle zusammenführt. Die argentinische Künstlerin präsentiert ihre großformatige, sich wölbende Rauminstallation "Madeleine und das Feuer", um mit einem gewöhnlichen Gebrauchsmaterial auf verblüffende Art und Weise die Zerbrechlichkeit der menschlichen Beziehungen aufzuzeigen...

At this moment in human history, four time capsules have been launched into space— two Pioneer Plaques and the two Voyager Golden Records with the hope that other civilized spacefarers will find them. In 2014 the KEO satellite will be sent into space with individual messages from earthlings to be read by future earthlings when the satellite returns to earth in the year 52,000...

100 years ago, in 1912, Wassily Kandinsky published in the almanac "The Blue Rider" a text which seems to be a manifest on founding sound art - at least a foreshadowing of sound art. His writing "Über Bühnenkomposition" (On stage composition) is a theoretical preface on a planned stage piece called "Der gelbe Klang" (The yellow sound) and in this text he postulated a new connection between the arts, an "inner" connection of "sound, color, words" and movement. His piece was never realised in his lifetime.
The installation Der gelbe Klang2 (The yellow sound2) as a homage to Kandinsky takes his conceptual ideas and makes a transfer into a contemporary sound art piece. Georg Klein often works in his sound art installations with a certain color which defines togehter with a basic sound a fundamental atmosphere of a specific site, preparing a field in which more material - sounds, words, video - can appear.
